hey dan, good to see you back. you still in the same area or did you move a long distance? sucks you have to work outside for now, how cold is it up there? i wore a ski mask at work on thursday, and my boss was giving me crap cuz it was only like 70 degrees. i seen your about done with the extra inch off the frame, when are you starting the chop? Might be a good idea to wait until you get your garage done since it takes a while. anyways lookin good, and as always keep me updated.

hey dan i checked out that mazda, it is pretty bad ass. I have read a few articles on chopping yota like yours and using the factory glass. They only ever do two inches i think because three won't let you use your stock door glass. in the articles they cut a triangle piece out of the bottom of the front pillar, and make a relief cut at the top of the front pillar where it starts to round out to the roof. to keep the stock rear glass they remove the two inches from under the glass and make a straight line up the back side of the rear pillar until it is about half way up the pillar and then cut horizontally and remove the two inches from the sides of the pillars. since the back of the yotas curves when the roof comes down it will line up at the two inch drop mark. then you will have to cut and spread the rear pillars to line up with the body, then fill in the gap. the doors are pretty much the same as the front pillar you have to cut a narrow triangle shape in the front at the bottom and make a relief at the top. to make the side glass fit you just have to re-drill the window regulator track a little bit forward of the factory holes, to make the glass fit the new angle of the front pillar. If this confused you more than it helped you let me know, i will try to draw up some pics on where to make your cuts. If you do it like this you won't have to add any material at the front of the doors like they did on the mazda, and you shouldn't have to cut across the roof. it is just about the easiest way to do the chop. keep me updated, i put my personal email in a private message, if you give me yours i can just attach the diagrams to an email rather than having to load them onto a page and linking the pics.

whats going on dan, sounds like your planning the chop top finally, what are you planning on doing for headroom? do you plan on lowering the floor or leaning the seat back? Make sure to let me know when you start it. I put the caddies in the yota but cant get the picture to load on here so i put a pic on my cardomain page, be sure to check them out. Later

Nice job on the Toy! Your going for the old '50s style look?  I've got blue-dots & a stock '91 lens with blue-dots installed 4sale.. Hope you're able to keep it driveable as getting tooo low & you hit things with the door (or rear panel[s] for lack of a bumper) &/or the bottom gets wasted - *no matter how 'evil' the pavement may be & needs punishing*  Keep your project simple, cost-effective (it's a good thing to be able to afford food & a roof), & practical; & life righteous & REAL! If you can, get the family & kids involved - if they want to. Make good memories & relationships. Godpeace.

hey dan whats up, i havent been on the site much since my computer has taken a crap on me. Looks like the yota is coming along nicely, i have to get 2 inch drop spindles as well since the truck won't lay out by an inch with the 18's. It's been around 110+ degrees down here, so i haven't been working on the yota much, but i'm trying to suck it up and get something done this weekend. did you decide to go with a chevy rearend so the driveline will match up to the tranny?

man, i need to find people to get me parts for free! The guys at the junkyard usually give me a break cuz i showed them the yota and they like it. I don't think i will need to use the 2" drop spindle cuz when i z'd the frame i raised it enough for the suspension to lay without them. However, yesterday we cut the floor out of the 4x4 bed and set it over the rear frame. Everything looked good, but when i raised the rear the tires push out and get stuck on the bed. now i have to narrow the rear of the frame about four inches. It's going to suck cutting it all apart again. It seems like when i get close to getting the rear finished i hit a road block. Oh the joy of wanting a badass door dragging yota. its a pain in the ass now, but should be cool when its done.

what's up dan, glad to see your back. Are those 2500 bags for the front? they look alot bigger than the bags were running on the yota. We are running 2500's from airbagit.com since i can just drive down and pick them up and not wait for them to be shipped. how much did the rx-7 rearend cost you, and what year is it out of? All the rx-7's i seen in the junkyard had independent rears. Are you going to run your bags on the axle or on the bars? I'm getting all excited, i can't wait to see your yota rollin. later

about the welding wire, the flux core or the solid wire will work fine, use an .035 wire for either. If you run straight argon it will produce a hotter weld then a mix of argon/carbon dioxide, or just straight carbon dioxide. I like to use solid wire since it has less spatter and a better appearance. If you use the flux wire be sure to weld any vertical welds up. I know its only 1/8" steel but since i do it everyday it is just habit.

dan, looks like you have been working your ass off. My brother and me were making alot of progress, but when my son was born we slowed down alot. your truck is looking better and better everytime i see it. I noticed that you built a smooth cowl, are you required to have windsheild wipers in canada? In arizona you have to have them, so we are thinking of building two cowls, one with wiper holes for everyday, and one for shows without the holes. Are you starting to see the light at the long dark tunnel? I can't wait to see it rollin, keep me updated.

hey dan, seen the picks and was wandering what size tires and wheels you want to run. we want a least an 18" wheel, but that meant we had to raise the fenders 1 1/2". Your truck is looking great and coming along nicely. I can't wait to see it rollin. It's going to be the sickest truck in canada!

That's the same welder I use. I see you sectioned the front suspension x-member, if I had used the original frame that is what I was going to do. I have started working on my s-10 during the week and working on the yota during the weekend. Today i body dropped the s-10 bed 9", it came out really nice. We are planning on taking the yota to bring the noize here in phoenix on feb. 24. Are you going to build a custom back half? What type of rear suspension are you going to run?

LAY IT OUT BRO!  That's awesome, and you did it yourself!  I got into mini's from a mag, but it bit me the same way!  I've not done anything quite as drastic to mine yet, but soon!  Keep it up, and don't let anything stop you!  Holla at me when it's through, I got to see that!
